Hi, this is Amber Shriner. I am a 12 year old Youth Entrepreneur. The name of my business is "Kool BagsTM Sold by a Kool Kid."
My older brother, Matthew, already has his own business and last winter
he made enough to donate almost $400 to the Salvation Army. I thought that was really cool. You can see his website at MittsForYourEars.com
I was born almost four months premature in Billings, Montana and I have some learning challenges. Starting my own business has helped me understand why I need to know certain things, like basic math (Yuch!) and writing (which I don't mind so much because I like to create stuff, so I'm learning how to do it better with words!) I really like talking, though, and meeting new people, and my business is letting me do that.
AND I am making money! Part of business is learning social responsibility. That is why I am donating 10% of my profits to the Winter Special Olympics 2009. In some ways, I can relate to the athletes. They need a lot of money right now and I am super happy that I am going to be able to help a little. I think all kids should get to experience having their own business.
Anyway, the website below is awesome. Bonnie Drew kind of started the whole kids owning a serious business thing way back in 1991 when she wrote "Fast Cash for Kids." (My Grandma says it's a classic!) Now she is helping kids around the world. If you are a youth or teen, or want to help someone who is, to start their own business, then you really need to click on the links below.
